What's the difference between the Zillon and the Grillon?
Petzl zillon vs grillon. The zillon was made for arborists and tree work, while the grillon was made for other workers at height (more industrial settings). However, they can both be used interchangeable, as they are both fantastic adjustable positioning lanyards! However, the Zillon uses a mechanical prusik device (much like the Petzl zigzag) to adjust the user along the length of the lanyard. The grillon also uses a unique device (much like a grigri) to adjust the position. The zillon uses a yellow rope while the grillon is white (also a black option). The grillon also comes with no connector and a variety of other connector options, the zillon only comes without a connector. The lengths that they come in vary differently depending on your needs. Also see the question below on ratings! The grillon is rated to ANSI Z359 while the zillon is not. The zillon rope is slightly more flexible, while the grillon uses a kernmantle rope designed more for industrial use.

Can you replace the lanyard on the zillon?
Yes! If the device on the zillon does not open, how can replace a lanyard on it with two sewn terminations? Well, the replacement lanyard actually only has one sewn termination. No, Petzl does not expect you to sew the other end after you've put it on. They instruct you to tie a barrel knot on the other knot after it's threaded through the mechanical prusik device, and then it is shrink wrapped. This replacement lanyard does not affect the use or ratings of the zillon in any way!

Is the zillon the same as the zigzag?
While the device on the zillon lanyard may look much like the zigzag or zigzag plus, they are slightly different. Obviously, the body of the zillon device is much more compact and only has the single attachment point. More importantly, the zillon device has one less bend in the mechnaical prusik device than the zigzag devices do. This allows for more fluidity in the positioning. Also, the zillon device is designed to be used on the zillon lanyard rope only, so the lowering (and ascent) behavior is very predictable, allowing Petzl to make a lower friction device.

Is the zillon ANSI rated?
No, unlike the grillon which is rated to ANSI Z359, the zillon is not. It does however, have certifications for CE EN 358, and UKCA.
